A DRAGON SOUMAC CARPET
EAST CAUCASUS, THIRD QUARTER 19TH CENTURY

The shaded brick-red field scattered with a variety of hooked floral panels, leaves, rosettes and animals around a central column of bold interlocking serrated bottle-green, indigo and ivory panels containing similar motifs and enclosing hooked golden yellow similar panels, in a charcoal-grey border of polychrome octagons alternating with chequered panels and X- motifs between ivory rosette and minor mill-pattern stripes, outer running dog stripe, scattered small restorations, corroded black substantially reworked.
