Neat, Old Stuff 13

This and our several other Neat, Old Stuff lists are eclectic mixes of paper and other ephemera. They are presented here in somewhat of a jumble but, eventually, they will be subdivided and sorted by type. To all prices add more for shipping and handling from New Hampshire. Interest in any of these items may be expressed by e-mail. Our name, address and phone numbers are at the bottom of the list. Alabama Claims Item, Geneva Awards

13/1. Geneva Award, Boston, June 1882, notice from an insurer that it is prepared to provide "certified copies" of policies on which "War Premiums" were paid during the Civil War so that the insured could seek recompense through the Alabama Claims ruling. 5 1/2x8 1/2. - $24

World War I Item, "Clippings from Home"

13/3. "Clippings from Home, Of the boys who now defend us in khaki and in blue, I am thinking, thinking, thinking, and I send these scraps to you," c. 1917. A kit into which newspaper clippings are put to be sent overseas to your soldier or sailor boy. The clippings in this kit include a photo of 25,000 officers and men forming a Liberty Bell, a cartoon panel of Mutt & Jeff who have come up against the military censor, and other war related items. - $20



Salem, Mass. Booklet, Forest River Park, 1935

13/4. "A Reference Guide to Salem, 1630, Forest River Park, Salem, Massachusetts." 52 pages plus covers. Photos and interesting text, history of Salem and Pioneer Village, complete list of herbs in the herb gardens. Information on 17th c. food and clothing with sewing instructions, color illustrations of period costumes. Center spread of pages loose. Lots of architectural information. - $35

13/7.Tourist Guide to Royan, France Area, 1929. Royan is located on the Western coast of France in the Gironde Estuary. 4x5 1/4, 68 pp plus covers which have a lovely color illustration. The booklet tells about the ancient history of the area, provides a guide to tourist attractions, train schedules, bus routes, etc. The language is French. photos and wonderful ads. Excellent condition. - $35



Civil War Campaign Map, Grant's and Sherman's Campaigns, 1865

13/8.Grant and Sherman's campaigns, 1865, c. 1880, 9"x14", covers an area from north of Washington, DC to south of Petersburg, VA, and west to Lynchburg, VA, A great visual piece and very useful when reading the history. - $30



Josiah Wedgwood Item

13/9. Postal card from Josiah Wedgwood and Son, Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent, to Richard Briggs of Boston, a major dealer of English China. On the message side: "Sir, In reply to cable we will send Sept. 19th (accidents excepted) 6 covered fluted biscuits 1061 Mandarin. We cabled you today as desired re: the above "Mandarin" sept. 19th," Ink stamp of oval inside of which is "Josiah Wedgwood & Sons, 1 sep 87 Etruria, Trent-on-Stoke. Boston Paid postal cancel. Postal side: British Victoria postal card of the period, Stoke-on-Trent circular date stamp with barred oval cancel . - $12.
