How to Order

This and our several other Neat Old Stuff Lists are eclectic mixes of paper and other ephemera. They are presented here in somewhat of a jumble but, eventually these lists will also be subdivided and cataloged by type. To all prices add approx UPS from New Hampshire. Interest in any of these items may be expressed by e-mail. Our name, address and phone number are at the bottom. If you don't see anything here that entices you, let us know what you are looking for or collect. We have lots of neat, old stuff.



British Swordmaker's Advertising Broadside, c. 1850

8/1. A color poster with accurate. detailed depictions of 22 regulation swords provided to the military services by, "William Jones and Compy...Manufacturers of swords of every Description for all Services, and Presentation." Pictured are "General, Staff, Heavy Cavalry, Royal Artillery and Light Cavalry, Royal Engineers, Infantry, Highland Claymore, Royal Navy, Diplomatic, Consuls, Deputy Lieutenant, Steel Court Sword, Troopers Cavalry Sabre, Highlanders Skean Dhu, Pioneers Sword, Highlanders Dirk, Midshipmans Dirk ," and four different Presentation Swords. The poster is 13"x18". About half an inch is missing from the top margin, the left margin has a 2"x1/4" paper void and a 1/2" tear, the upper, right corner has a 1"x3" tear but the paper is all there. The poster has great color and is a veritable catalogue of the British service swords of c. 1850. We present a graphic of a small area of the poster. For some reason our scanner renders a beautiful silver/pewter color as green. This is a companion piece to No. 8/2

British Military Head Gear Advertising Broadside, c. 1850

8/2. A color poster with accurate. detailed depictions of 21 "Head Dresses," provided to the military services by, "William Jones and Compy...Manufacturers of Cocked Hats, Busbys, Caps, and all kinds of Head Dresses for the Army, Navy, and Volunteers." Pictured are "Court Cocked Hat with Gold Loop, Staff Cocked Hat, Infantry Cap Line Regiment, Fusilier Regiment, Glengarry Fatique, Royal Artillery Fatique Cap, Hussar Busby, Lancer Chaco, Fusilier Busby, Staff Forage Cap, Rifle Cap, Court Cocked Hat with Steel Loop, Naval Cocked Hat, Captain's Rl . (Royal) Navy Cap, Lieuts. Rl. (Royal) Navy Cap, Hussar Cap, Royal Engineers Fatique Cap, Staff Fatique Cap, Rifle Fatique Cap." The poster is 14"x18 1/2". Excellent Condition but for a 1/16" glue stain that runs down the left margin edge and a 1/8" glue stain that runs down the right margin edge (probably from being framed at some point.). The poster has great color and is a veritable catalogue of the British service head gear of c. 1850. We present a graphic of a small area of the poster. This is a companion piece to No. 8/1

Advertising Piece, Jell-O, 1905

8/3. Booklet published by Genesee Pure Food Co., "Jell-o, The Dainty Dessert, copyright 1905." 3 1/2"x6", 12 pp. plus covers. Cover features, "The Jell-o Girl," inside are recipes and center spread shows five Jell-o dishes in beautiful color. Great color, excellent condition.

Childrens' Magazine, A.C. Gilbert, Lionel Trains Ads

8/4. Childrens' Magazine, "Something to Do, Christmas, 1916." Lovely color cover of boy holding a rather demented looking Santa mask up to his face. Rest of magazine is B&W. Good content, great ads such as: A.C. Gilbert Co. Erector Set, Lionel Trains, Flexible Flyer sleds, Kodak Cameras. 96 pps plus covers. Front cover crease.

Political Item, Thomas E. Dewey Press Pass, 1940

8/5. Political item. Press pass to see "Thomas E. Dewey, Candidate for Republican Nomination for President," at an appearance at Mechanics Building, Huntington Ave., Boston, January 23, 1940. The pass has a hole punched in it (upper, right), probably part of the admission process, and is in excellent condition. Information on the reverse indicates this ticket allowed the bearer access to the stage. Dewey, of course, lost to Roosevelt, but he went on to beat Truman in 1948, according to the famous Chicago Tribune headline.

Ocean Liner Menu, Norddeutscher Lloyd Bremen's S.S. Columbus

8/6. Ocean Liner Menu, Dinner Menu from Norddeutscher Lloyd Bremen's S.S. Columbus, while on a West Indies cruise, Saturday, January 23rd, 1932. The fish course was Broiled Yellow Tail or Boiled Havana Red Snapper, The Special Dish was Havana Lobster, for roasts there was Sirloin of Beef and Long Island Duckling, from the grill came lamb's tongue and Thuringian sausage, and so on. Fold crease, otherwise fine.

Rare Civil War Book Published in the Confederacy, 1962

8-7 "The First Year of the War," by Edward A. Pollard, published in Richmond, 1862, "Corrected and Improved Edition." "Entered according to Act of Congress, in the Year 1862, by WEST & JOHNSTON, in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the Confederate States for the Eastern District of Virginia." There was a first edition published in Richmond and later editions published in Toronto, New York and London. This is one of a very few books published in the Confederacy. It is a highly interesting contemporary account of the first year of the war. It contains four steel engravings of Davis, Lee, Beauregard, and Jackson. The images appear to be from the Mexican War period. Pollard was the Editor of the Richmond Examiner and, later in the war, excoriated Davis in the pages of his newspaper. 360 pp. Normal shelf wear to spine, otherwise fine.

8/9. Calendar, 1890. 3" x 4 1/4," publ. by "Boston Branch American Baptist Publication Society." Recto: an owl, leafy branch and quarter moon in color, verso: year calendar. Excellent condition, scored for folding.

8/10. Pierce-Arrow for "The Pierce-Arrow Sort of People." From Asia Magazine 1927, lovely color (much better than the scan). 8 3/4"x11 3/4", excellent condition.
